A Different Side to Berlin

Get off the beaten track and you find a different looking Berlin. Each neighbourhood changes especially when heading out further East.
Our Alternative Walking Tour tour guide (Scottish not German)
Tachless was once a large Jewish department store, abandoned for obvious reasons, that fell into East Berlin and was left to crumble by the Soviets. These days it's an artists squat that the Government is trying to tear down.
The largest remaining stretch of the Berlin wall: The East Side Gallery
A house built right on the Berlin wall (West side) out of the rubbish that had been dumper in the area. Attached to the house is a vegetable garden the man who built it still lives in the apartments across the road and can apparently be seen in the garden in the summer
Sunday flea markets
Berlin Tempelhof is an abandoned airport right near the city centre. During the division of Berlin it was used to airlift supplies into West Berlin and was of course also used heavily in WWII. Three years ago it was shut down and the runway area has become a local park.

Just Don't Mention the War

"Paris will always be Paris but Berlin is still becoming Berlin."
Berlin was an amazing place to be. The way it has grown and has changed and how it's still changing. Some areas of Berlin in five years might be completely unrecognisable. These photos are of main touristy and historical sights.
The Memorial to the Murdered Jews:
Location of the Gestapo and SS headquarters where the decision was made to not build anything but leave the site as a reminder of such:
A remaining segment of the Berlin Wall:
The location of Hitler's Bunker (right underneath the tourists) again it was decided that it should not to be made into any kind of memorial by both the East and West:
Museum Island and the church on the island, everything is of course recently rebuilt but the statues on the church are the originals as the Nazis themselves kept them safe during the war:
Checkpoint Charlie, not at all the original or even close to the original but the sign's frame I believe is the original:

Venezia

Venice was nothing short of what you expect. You step out of the train station straight onto the banks of the Grand Canal. My hostel even had a gondola stop right underneath our balcony.
The only photo I managed to get of this great gallery we stumbled upon. The art mixed pop culture with historical events and also famous works of art.
